A new identity for a major global video game studio.
Square Enix is a Japanese company leading the video game market. In 2013, it founded its mobile game studio in Montreal, which has since won numerous awards and is recognized for games like Hitman Sniper and Lara Croft Go.
After several years, as the video game culture continues to evolve with increasing innovation, SEM selected the advertising agency Hula Hoop to rethink their brand territory, brand book, graphic identity, and develop a new corporate narrative with the primary goal of supporting the employer brand strategy.

The new brand universe of Square Enix Montreal is based on codes borrowed from video game enthusiasts, the recognition of talent, and the promotion of mobile gaming.

Round the corners of the identity!
In the end, the logo had to remain consistent with that of the Japanese company, so the corners of the original square were rounded to reflect the characteristic shape of mobile applications, showcasing the studio's expertise.
The typography, the heart of Square Enix's identity, was placed at the center of the creative strategy. It served as the foundation for the creation of a custom typography that forms the basis of the new identity. Inspired by the logos of the studio's GO series, the letters are made up of varied shapes, illustrating the concepts of play and collaboration.
The empty and filled letters evoke the creative process inherent to the development phases of SEM's games. This graphic universe recalls the playful sphere in which the brand operates, offering it an infinite playground for its future applications.
